The Fondazione Terzo Pilastro supports the Bologna branch of the AIL (Italian Association for Leukemia, Lymphomas, and Myelomas) through two projects: the first is the “Study on the immune infiltrate and the immuno-metabolic profile of patients with acute leukemia”; the second is “Spectral flow cytometry for the study of the immune infiltrate and the immuno-metabolic profile of patients with acute leukemia”.
The first study – which aims at identifying changes in the metabolism of immune system cells that, although already very active in the study of solid tumors, it is much less so with regard to immune cells in patients affected by Leukemia – consisted in also then analyzing these changes.
The second study involves the purchase of a state-of-the-art device that allows to acquire information on individual cells and analyze a high number of events per second, obtaining results with a high statistical value. The objective of the two projects, supported by the Fondazione Terzo Pilastro, is to study the immunological changes that are responsible for treatment resistance and be able to develop specific therapies aimed at making the immune system receptive to treatment.
