CRACKING ART. STORIES Exhibition held in TRAPANI and MOTYA

Promoted by Fondazione Terzo Pilastro- Internazionale at the request of the Chairman Professor Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele, produced by Fondazione Cultura e Arte with the organisational support of Comediarting and Arthemesia in collaboration with Fondazione G. Whitaker, the exhibition is curated by the artist collective Cracking Art and held under the aegis of the Municipality of Trapani. This new exhibition project titled ‘Cracking Art. Stories’ specifically focuses (like the exhibition in Palermo) on the concept of reinterpreting well-known places so they assume a different identity and meaning than usual. The very topical reference to the typical social media profile ‘Stories’, which usually immortalise real moments and situations embellishing them with fictitious details: in this case, the artworks are placed in the chosen context - with which they establish a very particular meditated interaction - to provide an unexpected view of the place or to convey a specific message.
The exhibition is held in settings such as Villa Margherita and outside Ligny Tower in Trapani.

THE CRACKING ART COLLECTIVE
The Cracking Art movement was founded in 1993 with the objective to radically change the history of art through a strong social and environmental commitment which, combined with an innovative use of plastic materials, emphasises the close relationship between natural and artificial realities.
The term "Cracking Art" derives from the verb ‘to crack’ meaning to break without complete separation of parts, crush etcetera. Moreover, the term catalytic cracking means the chemical reaction when petroleum is converted into plastic.   The Artists believe that "cracking" is the moment when a natural resource is transformed into an artificial product and they intend to represent this process through their art.
The works are designed to encourage a collective reflection on topics concerning the anthropic effect on the natural environment through intriguing performative acts, in which outsized installations - such as the famous coloured-animals - invade the most varied places, from spaces dedicated art to those of everyday life.
Recycling plastic means avoiding its toxic destruction, so devastating for the environment, giving it a new life by turning it into works of art which communicate in an innovative aesthetic language expressing a particular sensibility towards nature.
As well as the official participation in the Venice Biennale (2001, 2011 and 2013) the most recent exhibitions include: Natura Indomita (2020), Teramo; En Plein Air (2020), San Benedetto del Tronto; Wild Rising (2019), at the Desert Botanical Garden of Phoenix, Arizona (USA); Regeneration@Newhollandisland (2019), New Holland Island, Saint Petersburg (Russia); Spectacular Creatures (2018), at the Indianapolis Museum of Art – Indianapolis (USA); BarocCracking (2018), at Palazzo Leoni Montanari – Gallerie d’Italia, Vicenza (Italia); Cracking Art@Hangang Art Park (2018) at Hangang Park, Seoul (Korea).
