Gaviria Palace is once again a highlight of Madrid’s autumn art season with the ‘Brueghel. Maravillas del arte flamenco’ project. The exhibition, promoted by Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Internazionale and organised by Arthemisia España in association with Poema S.p.A., brings together a vast number of works by the Brueghel dynasty, offering a rare opportunity to become acquainted with this family that marked the history of European art between the XVI e il XVII centuries.
‘Brueghel. Maravillas del arte flamenco (Brueghel. Wonders of Flemish Art)’ presents almost a hundred particularly significant artworks to recount the story of this family of artists, whose imaginary is the reflection of an entire historical period.
The exhibition, curated by Sergio Gaddi, arrived in Spain having stayed in cities such as Rome, Paris and TelAviv, as well as several venues in Japan (Tokyo, Toyota, Sapporo, Hiroshima e Kōriyama ), where is was a great success.
Professor Don Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele of Villabianca, Baron of Culcasi and Chairman of Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Internazionale, which promotes the event through its operational arm Poema S.p.A, commented, “I am delighted to have contributed to bring, once again, a fundamental exhibition in the panorama of Western art to the magnificent setting of Gaviria Palace in Madrid, a city I particularly love. After last year’s exhibition focused on the two historical avant-garde movements Dada and Surrealism, now it is time for an exhibition dedicated to Pieter Brueghel the Elder and his dynasty, who over five generations, from the mid XVI century for over one hundred and fifty years, revolutionised the aesthetics and contents of art of the time, inspired by the Renaissance, giving rise to the golden age of Flemish paining. The artworks that constitute this exhibition are an excellent cross-section of seventeenth century Holland but at the same time they reflect the universal themes of the history of humanity (honesty, charity, avarice and hypocrisy), which the contemporary society invariably has to deal with. Therefore, it brings me great satisfaction to have contributed to the creation of such a valuable artistic event in Spain, in particular, Madrid where Fondazione Terzo Pilastro decided to open a headquarters in order to make an important and helpful contribution to promote and support cultural and solidarity projects in the region.”
